CIBHT is one of the few colleges in Ireland currently offering the Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage - the only sports massage qualification that enables you to work with pathological/injured tissue.

The Level 4 takes your knowledge & understanding to the next level, with critical analysis and research. Practically, you will work with injured tissue and learn advanced assessing, palpation and treatment techniques.

This qualification is targeted at practitioners currently working in sport and active leisure, including osteopaths, physiotherapists, sports therapists and Level 3 Sports Massage Practitioners.

This qualification is also open to those who hold Body massage, Holistic massage and Swedish massage diplomas form any awarding body.

You will be entitled to a 10% course discount if you already hold a Level 3 Sports Massage Certificate (from any awarding body gained in any college)

Information: 

This specialist qualification includes advanced anatomical, physiological and pathological principles; advanced palpation skills; analysis of posture & range of movement and massage techniques to prevent and manage injury in sport and active leisure.

You will develop a range of advanced skills and massage techniques to prevent and manage injury in sport and active leisure, which will prepare for the long arduous hours and unpredictability of working in sport.

You will also learn to critically evaluate massage strategies and methods to inform on your future treatments.

You must gain experience in a sports clinic or with a sports team and document evidence of treatments throughout.

This course equips practitioners with a range of advanced skills and massage techniques to prevent and manage injury in sport and active leisure.

Qualification Structure:

  • Practical anatomy and physiology for sports massage
  • Understand the relevant anatomy, physiology and pathology of massage
  • Be able to palpate structures of the musculoskeletal system
  • Be able to analyse posture and range of movement
  • Case studies
  • If you hold a L3 Sports massage cert evidence of 50 hours of treatments
  • If you hold another massage qualification evidence of 100 hours of sports massage treatments

Applying Massage Methods to Prevent & Manage Injury:

  • Be able to work within agreed standards of practice
  • Be able to assess clients, plan & evaluate the effectiveness of massage methods
  • Principles of exercise, training, stretching, injury prevention & management
  • Healing process, inflammation, scar tissue, adhesions and skin injuries
  • Preventative and rehabilitative training
  • Specific Sports Massage techniques
  • Treatment of injury, pre-event, during/between event, post event, corrective, preventative, conditioning massages

Practical Anatomy & Physiology for Sports Massage:
